Get an Employer Identification Number

Figure out if the worker is going to be an employee or an independent contractor
- 03A -
If the worker is an independent contractor, follow these steps:
i. Sign an independent contractor agreement with the contractor
ii. Decide if you need to make a filing with the IRS
iii. Have the contractor fill out a W-9 form
iv. Fill out a 1099-MISC
v. Have worker complete task(s)
- 03B -
If the worker is an employee, follow these steps:
i. Sign an Employment Agreement
ii. Set up a system whereby you withhold taxes
iii. Verify that the employee is eligible to work
iv. Report to your state's new hiring program
v. Obtain insurance
vi. Post required notices
vii. File your taxes
viii. Have worker complete task(s)
